Configurable overspeed detection system
It is a configurable overspeed detection system designed to safely shut down steam, gas and water turbines of all sizes when an overspeed or over acceleration event is sensed. Two dual redundant trip relay outputs are provided, using a two out of three voting architecture, or three independent non voting trip relay outputs, with separate alarm relays, 4 – 20 mA speed readings, and Modbus communications, making this overspeed device easy to integrate into any turbine safety system. This ProTech GII model is a bulkhead mounted, high/low pressure, voting relay, voting input with a mathematical function protection device for steam turbine protection.
This fast acting overspeed protection device is designed to be used in conjunction with the turbine control or trip system to safely shut down the turbine in the event of a turbine overspeed event. The interface with the relevant control system or plant DCS (Distributed Control System) can be implemented through redundant hardwired input and output signals of the ProTech GII or through its triple redundant serial Modbus communication port. Online testing Each ProTech GII module can be manually tested from the front panel of the module, Modbus communication port, or automatically tested through its automatic test routine function. ProTech GII allows the user to configure overspeed tests to be performed automatically at regular intervals, testing each module (A, B, C) at a time, and recording the results of each test or pausing the test to detect detected errors Trip, Alarm, and Overspeed LogThe ProTech GII Log function records (saves to memory) all trip, alarm, trip valve response times, and overspeed events. The trip log function uses a rolling buffer and records the last 50 sensed trip or alarm events and the last 20 overspeed events into memory, along with the associated time. Each log file can be viewed from the front panel of the device or downloaded to the computer through the ProTech GII service utility. Each module uses non-volatile memory to ensure that all logged events are stored, even when power is lost. Real Time Clock Each ProTech GII module uses a real time clock to ensure accurate time recording. Special time averaging function is used between modules to ensure clock synchronization between modules.
