They are designed to hold the motor shaft at 0 rpm to achieve the rated brake holding torque. Follow the steps below to prevent the motor shaft from rotating. 1. Command the servo drive to 0 rpm. 2. Confirm that the motor speed is 0 rpm. 3. Engage the brake. 4. Disable the drive. Disabling the drive eliminates the possibility of brake wear due to servo oscillating axes. The cable enters under the motor and forms a drip loop. The cable enters above the motor without forming a drip ring. 6 MP series low inertia brushless servo motor with 75 mm or smaller frame size Rockwell Automation Publication MP-IN006D-EN-P-2015 January Use of shaft seal If the motor shaft is exposed to fluid or a large amount of fine dust, additional sealing is required on the motor shaft near the motor front bearing. This includes lubricating oil from the gearbox. The IP66 rating of the motor requires the use of connectors/cables with shaft seals and environmental seals. It is not recommended to use additional seals in applications where there is no liquid or fine dust in the motor shaft area and the rating is low: refer to the technical specifications on page 20 for a brief description of the IP ratings of these MP series motors. Refer to the shaft seal kit on page 19 to find the catalog number of the seal kit for your motor. See Kinetix ? Sports accessory specification, publication GMC-TD004, to find environmentally sealed connectors and cables compatible with MP series motors. Mechanical connection between coupling and pulley and motor shaft, such as coupling and pulley, requires torsional rigid coupling or reinforced timing belt.
The high dynamic performance of the servo motor will cause the coupling, pulley or belt to loosen or slip over time. Loose or slipping connections can cause system instability and damage to the motor shaft. All connections between the system and the servo motor shaft must be rigid to achieve an acceptable response of the system. Check the connection regularly to verify its rigidity. When installing the coupling or pulley on the motor shaft, ensure that the connections are correctly aligned and that the axial and radial loads are within the specifications of the motor. Refer to the shaft seal kit for guidance on achieving 20000 hours of motor bearing life. The protection against electrical noise electromagnetic interference (EMI), commonly referred to as noise, will adversely affect motor performance by introducing stray signals. Follow these guidelines to prevent EMI effects: isolate power transformers, or install line filters on all AC input power lines. Separate the signal cable from the motor cable and power line. Do not route the signal cable along with the motor and power cord, or over the vents of the servo drive. Note: If the shaft is severely impacted during the installation of the coupling and pulley, the motor bearing and feedback device may be damaged. Applying a lever from the motor mounting surface to remove equipment mounted on the motor shaft may damage the feedback device. Do not knock the shaft, coupling or pulley with tools during installation or removal. Use the wheel puller to apply pressure from the user end of the shaft to remove any friction fit or stuck devices from the motor shaft.
